Long ago, when the moors were wilder and the winds carried whispers of forgotten magic, there stood a house at the edge of a golden meadow. It was said to belong to Vixana, a woman of power, feared and revered in equal measure. But she was never seen alone – five hares stood always at her side, their keen eyes watching, their ears twitching as if catching secrets in the wind. Some believed they were her familiars, spirits bound to her will, moving unseen between worlds.  Others said they were the keepers of her knowledge, holding the old magic in their swift limbs and silent paws. When Vixana vanished, the house fell into ruin, but the hares remained.  Even now, as the meadow turns to gold in the late summer sun, five hares can sometimes be seen standing watch, as if waiting for their mistress to return – or guarding the last remnants of her power.
