Valuations

Art Valuations.

What are they for?

Perhaps you’ve inherited a painting, or you’ve bought one from an auction, or your insurers need an estimate? We undertake art valuations for insurance purposes, probate or market value.

‘How much is the painting worth?

Sometimes it’s just curiosity.  Perhaps you have purchased something many years ago and would like to know it’s current value and would like advice on selling it. From current market value to insurance valueations as well as the best place to sell and artist resale rights- we have the answers.

Probate

When a loved one passes away then often their belongings have to be valued for probate as part of their estate. This includes paintings.

It can be overwhelming and emotional, especially at such a sad time. We can help by taking the confusion away.

We can provide a valuation and condition report to the solicitors for the estimated value. Plus, we can even advise on how to insure them or sell them when probate has been granted.

Insurance Valuations

It is distressing to think that something may happen to your beloved artworks, but unfortunately, it does happen. From fires, floods to burst pipes- all of which can ruin your paintings. We can provide valations for the cost of replacing artworks, as well as valuing them for insurance cover in the first place.

How do you value a painting?

We have years of experience in the art world. From investigating the artist and the era, the current market values (because art, like stocks and shares can rise and fall), the style and medium of the work to the provenance. Plus there is the condition of the painting and the framing and whether it needs repairs or restoration, which we can also assist with.

Our Fees

Valuing art takes time and so we do have to charge. Our fees begin at £40 for a rough appraisal and then £40 an hour thereafter.

Costs will depend on how detailed a report is required and how much time it takes to prepare the report. Please note that for probate, our fees should be able to be claimed back from the estate. Some insurers will also cover costs.

Not having paintings correctly insured or valued could potentially cost you much more in the longer term.
