They say the wild hares of Lydford are not like others. Fleet-footed and near silent, they vanish into the bracken before a hunter’s eye can fix upon them. But one, in particular, is spoken of in hushed tones—a hare not of flesh and bone, but of leaf and petal, woven from the very fabric of the forest. Some claim it is the spirit of the outlawed and the forgotten, a whisper of those who once fled into the deep woods, swallowed by the land itself.Others say it is older still, a guardian of the earth, watching as the centuries turn. Against the grey dawn, it lingers for just a moment, a fleeting vision of the wild heart of Lydford – before melting back into root and shadow once more.
