Who Are the Classes For?
These classes are for:
- Complete beginners
- Those with some experience who’d like to build confidence and skill
Everyone arrives with different interests and abilities — and that’s very much welcomed. With such a small group, Cheri is able to work one-to-one with each person, offering individual guidance while still enjoying the relaxed, supportive feel of a shared class.
It’s a friendly group of people who simply enjoy making art together. You’ll also be joined by Claude the gallery dog, who is excellent company and usually asleep nearby.
What Will You Be Working With?
You’re encouraged to explore what excites and interests you.
Mediums
Drawing (pencil and charcoal), watercolour, pastels, gouache, oils, acrylics, and ink.
Subjects
Landscapes, wildlife, nature, people, buildings — or anything else that captures your imagination.
There’s no rigid syllabus here. The lessons grow around you and your creative interests.
The Aim of the Class
These sessions are about your own artistic journey.
Over time, you will:
- Learn essential skills and techniques
- Become comfortable with different materials and colour theory
- Learn how to truly see what you’re drawing or painting
- Develop confidence and trust in your abilities
- Gradually find your own voice and style as an artist
You’ll be supported by Cheri and by the gentle encouragement of the group every step of the way.

How Do the Sessions Work?
Each new student begins with a friendly chat. This helps Cheri understand:
- Where you’re starting from
- What you enjoy
- What you’d like to work towards
From there, guidance is completely personalised. Cheri moves between students, offering thoughtful, practical support while keeping the atmosphere calm, relaxed, and enjoyable.
Materials – What Do I Need?
You don’t need to bring anything to get started.
- If you already have art supplies, you’re encouraged to bring them along
- Cheri will guide you on what materials to buy (and what’s worth avoiding)
- You’ll be helped to choose good-quality materials without overspending
- Some materials are available to try at no extra cost
