Shari Hills

Shari Hills is an experienced artist and tutor who has been teaching watercolour and developing her work over many years. Immersed in painting from an early age as her mother is also an artist. A member of the Drawn to the Valley group of artists based in the Tamar Valley. Shari has published contributions in several books.

‘I’m inspired by the natural world and the creatures that inhabit it. I use transparent glazes of watercolour to capture the ethereal effects of light and colour in nature. Sometimes natural fibres or handmade papers are collaged into the painting or crayons or inks may be used within a watercolour painting to achieve a particular effect.’

Testimonials
“If to be a successful tutor, one should have patience, the ability to inspire and explain, and give gentle but constructive criticism, then Shari Hills certainly fills these criteria. From each class one leaves with fresh confidence and, most importantly, self-belief in one’s ability!”
Clare Ellison

“I have been attending Shari’s classes for a few years. She has a lovely welcoming presence and inspires confidence in the most nervous painters. Shari demonstrates various techniques and has a wide range of references to help set us on our way. She is an enthusiastic and excellent tutor and I always look forward to her classes and workshops.”
Jill Jarvis

“I have been attending Shari’s classes for around five years. I had no experience of painting but always wanted to try. I found Shari very encouraging and patient. Every week I learn something new and love experimenting with new techniques and new resources. Her loose watercolour paintings are beautiful and inspiring.”
