The wren and catkins sum up the month of February for me. The pink buds of the hazel catkins are just about to bloom into yellows-but not quite. The wren who is all puffed up and sitting on her feet to keep them warm, has survived the long harsh winter and is more visible at this time of year because of the bare tree branches whereas normally she is just a beautiful song in a hedge or scuttling through the undergrowth like a winged mouse.
