Shari is an experienced artist and tutor who has been teaching watercolour and developing her work over many years. Immersed in painting from an early age as her mother is also an artist. A member of the Drawn to the Valley group of artists based in the Tamar Valley. Shari has published contributions in several books.
Several years ago Shari went along to a pottery group at the request of a friend to keep her company. She soon became as absorbed in the clay as she is with the paint. The recent addition of a new kiln has allowed her the freedom to experiment with new ideas and finishes. My love of nature and wildlife inspires both my ceramic pieces and my paintings. Experimenting with painterly techniques for clay and developing ideas that are both decorative and have a practical use has been a joy.
‘I’m inspired by the natural world and the creatures that inhabit it. I uses transparent glazes of watercolour to capture the ethereal effects of light and colour in nature. Sometimes natural fibres or handmade papers are collaged into the painting or crayons or inks may be used within a watercolour painting to achieve a particular effect.’
