Clare’s work focuses on richly textured oil paintings, using only a palette knife. Each painting is built up layer upon layer to interpret the outstanding natural beauty that surrounds us. Clare grew up on a farm in Cornwall before moving to Falmouth to study illustration. Having thoroughly enjoyed investigating all mediums and the idea of telling a story. Upon graduation Clare moved to London, where she soaked up the city life, recording all its colours and the electrifying atmosphere it had to offer. This culminated in a series of six exhibitions throughout London, which were successfully received. Clare travelled to many countries recording momentary experiences of shapes, ideas and colours, which has given a diverse pool of memories to be constantly called upon. However the pull of Cornwall led her to settle back near her childhood home . She now spends her days painting and drawing in her studio at home, using the dynamic sea and moorland walks to gain creative clarity. She frequently visits London to soak up the wonderful abundance of galleries.
‘My constant inspiration in art has been the Impressionist movement. Although I have an appreciation of all forms, Impressionism stirs a feeling of great excitement within me and has proven to be the way I look upon the world. The ever changing landscape and sense of peace that I have found in the countryside has resulted in an avalanche of inspiration. ‘
